Thank to you all the voters who turned out to approve Proposition 1 this March! This is a historic step forward for California, which will now be able to modernize the state’s Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) and prioritize funding for individuals living with serious mental illness.

The ballot initiative was supported by NAMI California after working closely with Governor Newsom’s Administration, Senator Eggman and Assemblymember Irwin to ensure consideration of family voices throughout the legislative process. While the MHSA has already positively transformed the public mental health system, addressing the critical needs of those living with serious mental illness has gradually diminished along the way.

Prop 1 will direct billions of dollars in existing funds for services and resources to those living with the most severe mental illness.
