African Communities Public Health Coalition (ACPHC)

An immigrant-based organization that advocates on behalf of African consumers, and coordinates and assists community members in receiving culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health services. ACPHC partners with communities and other public service agencies, to anticipate community’s problems, with the goal of prevention, or promoting safety, stability, health and well-being. These initiatives focus on a number of groups including: new arrived refugees, the elderly, youth in the risk situations, and children.

The Association of Black Psychologists sees its mission and destiny as the liberation of the African Mind, empowerment of the African Character and enlivenment and illumination of the African Spirit. The group has developed programs whereby psychologists of African descent (Black Psychologists) can assist in solving problems of Black communities and other ethnic groups.

Black Emotional and Mental Health (BEAM)

A directory resource to search for therapists and practitioners (including doulas, yoga teachers, mediators, and more). BEAM’s mission is to remove the barriers that Black people experience getting access to or staying connected with emotional health care and healing. They do this through healing justice-based organizing, education, training, grantmaking and advocacy.

Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation

Black Women’s Health Project

The California Black Women’s Health Project (CABWHP) is the only statewide, non-profit organization that is solely committed to improving the health of California’s 1.2 million Black women and girls through advocacy, education, outreach and policy. They focus on empowering Black women to take personal responsibility for their own health and to advocate for changes in policies that negatively affect Black women’s health status. Sisters Mentally Mobilized (SMM) Program: Trains Black women to become mental health community advocates and launch mental health focused Sister Circles in the communities where Black women live, work, play and pray.

The Safe Place

Free smartphone Minority Mental Health App focused on psychoeducation and self-care geared towards the Black Community. African Americans are 20% more likely to experience serious mental health problems than the rest of the general population. However, many black people still do not wish to seek professional help for their mental illnesses. The purpose of the app is to bring more awareness, education, and hope to this serious issue.

Sista Afya - Community Mental Wellness

Sista Afya is a social enterprise that provides low-cost mental wellness services that center the experiences of Black women.
