Narrated by Brooke Adams and Tony Shalhoub, Into the Light is an engaging and impactful film that showcases how education, advocacy, and appropriate treatment can lead to a fulfilling recovery journey.

A Message of Hope and Real Help

The documentary addresses the vital components necessary for compassionate and effective mental health care. It covers essential topics such as overcoming treatment barriers, the effective yet often underutilized medication clozapine, and the critical role of community and advocacy in supporting those affected by SMI. By blending personal stories, expert opinions, and actionable steps, Into the Light offers a roadmap for individuals, families, and advocates to follow in the journey towards recovery.

Voices from Across the Nation

The film features over 25 interviews with patients, family members, and leading medical and mental health experts, sharing their perspectives on living with and treating SMI. Notable contributors include:

  • Xavier Amador, Ph.D., author of I am Not Sick, I Don’t Need Help, who shares his LEAP Method to foster trust with those experiencing psychosis.
  • Ken Duckworth, M.D., Chief Medical Officer of NAMI and author of You Are Not Alone, who highlights the importance of community support in recovery.

The Importance of Community Support

At the core of Into the Light is the message that recovery is a shared journey. This collective approach to recovery is essential in helping those with SMI regain hope and confidence.
